What is Included in a Full Body Health Check?

Last updated: 10 October 2024

Staying healthy, fit and active for as long as possible is something that many of us aspire to. When it comes to maintaining good health, knowledge about your current health status is key. Knowing about any potential problems or risks early empowers you to take a proactive approach to managing and monitoring your wellbeing.

Regular health checks can help you proactively monitor and improve your health. They give insights into your overall wellbeing as well as the functioning of the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and more through a series of tests.

At Bluecrest Wellness, we recommend you have a full health check at least once a year to keep on top of your health and to check for any important changes in any of your previous results.

How to check your full body health

Getting a full body check is simple and hassle-free. It involves answering some questions about your medical history and undergoing a series of tests. This normally includes an n ECG, blood pressure check, body composition analysis and blood tests.

If you’re aged 40-74, you can get a complete health checkup through your usual GP every five years. People under the age of 40 don’t qualify for a full health check up as they are considered at lower risk of many of the conditions it screens for, like type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol. However, if you’re under 40 and have any concerns, you should raise them with your GP.

If you don’t qualify for a full body health check through the NHS or would like more regular check ups, you can book a private full body health check through a range of providers, including Bluecrest Wellness.

At Bluecrest Wellness, we pride ourselves on offering comprehensive full body health checks that provide detailed insights into your health and wellbeing. We offer an extensive range of health check packages, from general health MOTs to specialist cancer risk tests and vitamin and mineral levels. So you can rest assured that we’ve got you covered.

A Bluecrest Wellness full body health check package includes:

Heart Health Checks

Our full body health check includes a comprehensive heart health check, using an ECG to look for irregularities in your heartbeat, like atrial fibrillation, which can increase your risk of having a stroke.

Blood Pressure Check

A blood pressure check helps identify high or low blood pressure, which can be linked to a higher risk of heart disease and a range of health conditions.

Prediabetes Checks

Type 2 diabetes is one of the fastest-growing illnesses in the UK, with people over 40 at increased risk of developing the condition. However, if type 2 diabetes is detected early, when it is often referred to as prediabetes, the chances of putting it into remission are greatest.

To check for prediabetes, we use an HbA1c test, which gives an indication of your average blood sugar level over the last two to three months.

Cholesterol Check

High levels of LDL or ‘bad’ cholesterol in your blood can contribute to fatty build-ups in the arteries. This can increase your risk of heart conditions like heart attack, stroke or peripheral arterial disease, so it’s important to get your cholesterol checked regularly.

Peripheral Arterial Disease Check

Peripheral arterial disease, often known as PAD, is a condition which can restrict blood flow to the legs, usually because of fatty deposits which narrow the arteries. A compares the blood pressure in your arm with that in your leg to test for the condition. This test is only recommended for over 40s.

Kidney and Liver Function Check

Lifestyle factors like being overweight or drinking alcohol and health conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, can impact how well your kidneys and liver function. Kidney and liver function tests enable us to check how efficiently these organs are working so you can take any necessary steps to improve your health.

Lung Function Test

Respiratory conditions like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), bronchitis and emphysema can all affect your respiratory health. Using a lung function test, we can provide vital insights into how your lungs are functioning. This test is only recommended for people aged 18-79.

Body Composition Scan

A body composition scan gives you a breakdown of the percentage and weights of various components of your body, including muscle mass, visceral fat, body water and more. The test is performed by sending a safe electrical signal through your body via pressure-contact electrodes.

Heart Disease and Stroke Risk

By combining various results from the tests performed during your full body health check with other common risk factors, we can show you the likelihood of you suffering from heart disease or a stroke in the future.

Essential Level Checks

Depending on which private full body health check package you choose, we also perform a range of checks on essential proteins and iron, bone health energy, muscle performance and lipoproteins. These tests can all provide additional information about your health and general wellbeing.

Blood Health Markers

Testing your blood health markers is important as it can provide insights into several conditions. Abnormal haemoglobin levels can sometimes indicate heart or lung disease, whilst abnormalities in mean cell haemoglobin or red blood cell count can be due to conditions such as anaemia or vitamin deficiency.

Personal Results Report

At Bluecrest Wellness, we provide you with a comprehensive personal Results Report that explains each test result in detail. Every result is given a green, amber or red flag to ensure it's easy to see where action needs to be taken. We also provide follow-up advice on how to improve your results and will inform you if any results need further follow-up with your own GP.

Your results will be available 24/7 through our online dashboard, My Wellness. You will receive an email notification as soon as your results are ready for viewing. Processing times vary by test, with some results accessible on the dashboard in as little as three days. The online dashboard also provides easy access to a downloadable PDF, making it simple to share your results with your GP.

Private GP Consultation as part of certain packages

Once you’ve received your Results if you have opted for a package that includes a GP consultation, you can book this at a time and date that is convenient to you. The GP you see for the appointment will have a copy of all your results, meaning they can talk through any areas of concern you may have.

24/7 GP Helpline

Many packages include unlimited access to a 24/7 GP helpline for a year after your appointment.
