What is a male cancer risk

check?

A male cancer risk check offers a series of tests to help people assigned as male at birth understand their risk of numerous cancers relevant to their sex.

For men, this includes screening for prostate cancer. This involves having a prostate-specific antigen test, also known as a PSA test. A PSA test measures the level of prostate-specific antigen in the blood. Elevated levels can indicate prostate cancer.

Caught early prostate cancer is more manageable and can have a good prognosis. This means that prostate cancer screening can be an effective preventative measure.

A male cancer risk screening test also includes screening for other cancers, like stomach, bowel, and kidney, alongside other tests like blood and blood pressure checks designed to assess your overall health and wellbeing.

Why should I have a male cancer risk

check?

A male cancer risk check is suitable for anyone aged 40-79 assigned male at birth who is interested in learning more about their general health and risk of certain cancers.

As part of the test involves screening your risk of prostate cancer, it can also be beneficial to males who may be experiencing symptoms of prostate problems, such as:

  • Struggling to keep a steady stream of urine
  • Difficulty starting to urinate
  • Difficulty stopping your urination
  • Going to the toilet more, especially at night
  • An enlarged prostate
  • Blood in your urine
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Painful urination or ejaculation (often described as a burning sensation)

What does a private male cancer risk check

involve?

A private male cancer risk check involves undergoing a series of tests, including blood tests, urinalysis, blood pressure checks and more, using state-of-the-art screening technology. This ensures you get accurate results regarding your risk of developing numerous cancers, including those specific to your gender assigned at birth, like a prostate cancer check.

A male cancer risk check can provide you with information, personalised advice, and support to help you take control of your wellbeing and improve your health, as well as provide insights into your risk of developing certain cancers.

A full health check takes into consideration your family history, medical history, and any risk factors relevant to you, like your cardiovascular disease risk. It also includes a review of important lifestyle factors, such as your weight, body mass index (BMI), and activity levels. As well as whether you eat a healthy well-balanced diet or have high blood pressure or cholesterol.

A doctor reviews your results alongside your history and lifestyle factors to provide expert advice on your risk of certain health conditions, including:

  • Prostate cancer (PSA test)
  • Bowel cancer (qFIT test)
  • Stomach cancer (Helicobacter Pylori)
  • Kidney cancer (urinalysis)
  • Cholesterol and diabetes test
  • Lung function check
  • Blood health markers
  • Kidney function
  • Essential proteins and iron

FAQs

Our male cancer risk check only takes around 30 minutes, so offers quick and convenient screening for a range of cancers, including those specific to men, like prostate cancer.
A male cancer risk check provides insights into your risk of certain cancers as well as your general health. The check is designed for people assigned male at birth who are aged 40-74. Our tests are designed to provide reassurance, so we do not recommend booking this package if you are younger than this due to the risk of false negative or positive results.
Your test results and other readings will each be given a ‘flag’ of a different colour: green, amber or red. Green results are within the recommended range for your age and sex; amber results are slightly outside what we'd normally expect; and red results are further outside the norm. Where a result is amber or red, we'll give follow-up advice on what to do next - whether that's making lifestyle changes, simply monitoring the result, or visiting your doctor for further investigation. If there are any critical results discovered by our laboratory, we will contact you immediately, so you won’t need to wait for your full Results Report to arrive to take appropriate action.
During a male cancer risk check you will undergo a range of tests, including blood tests, blood pressure checks, urinalysis and more. The results of these tests are reviewed alongside any information you provided during your appointment about your general health and any concerns you may have. This ensures you get comprehensive results and advice tailored to your needs. Our private male cancer risk check also includes tests specific to your risk of cancers relevant to people assigned male at birth, like a PSA blood test to screen your risk of prostate cancer.
A PSA blood test to check your risk of prostate cancer is included in our male cancer risk packages but can also be booked individually. However, if you are keen to take a proactive approach to your health, we recommend purchasing our male cancer risk check packages for a comprehensive overview of your general health. In addition to a wide range of health tests, following your appointment, you'll receive a personalised Results Report and free 24/7 GP helpline access for an entire year. of
