Why take a private Helicobacter pylori

test?

Helicobacter pylori infections are easy to miss as they often present few symptoms until the bacteria has caused further complications. If you suspect digestive issues, scheduling a private Helicobacter pylori test is a prudent decision.

Helicobacter pylori symptoms include:

  • Indigestion
  • Heartburn
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Weight loss

Undertaking a private Helicobacter Pylori Test is advisable if you have previously suffered from stomach ulcers, have experienced dyspepsia (indigestion) or have had a helicobacter pylori infection in the past. As the bacteria helicobacter pylori affects the protective lining of the stomach and small intestine, this increases the risk of the stomach lining being susceptible to irritation and the development of ulcers.

Most cases of gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, and chronic gastritis or inflammation are caused by an existing helicobacter pylori infection. Around 10% of people with an H. Pylori infection will develop ulcers. Furthermore, an H. pylori infection is also a risk factor for certain types of stomach cancer.

By booking a private Helicobacter Pylori Test, you can undergo testing for the presence of this bacteria and treat it before it causes further damage and health concerns.

What does a Helicobacter pylori test

involve?

Helicobacter pylori can be detected in several ways. For example, Bluecrest Wellness offers a blood test to check for the presence of an infection. Here are the most common tests for helicobacter pylori and what they involve.

Urea breath test

Urea breath testing involves swallowing a pill or drink containing the chemical urea. This chemical is broken down by the bacteria H. pylori into carbon dioxide. If there is a helicobacter pylori infection, when breathing out as part of the testing process, the breath you exhale will have higher than normal carbon dioxide levels.

Stool antigen test

In this test for Helicobacter pylori, a stool sample is collected and tested for bacteria. The stool antigen test checks for proteins or antigens in the stool that are associated with an H. pylori infection.

Blood test

A blood sample is taken and tested for antibodies to the H. pylori bacteria. Antibodies are naturally produced proteins found in your blood that help to fight infection. This is a convenient and non-invasive test to check for the presence of Helicobacter pylori antibodies. The private helicobacter pylori blood tes t can be booked with Bluecrest Wellness.

FAQs

Our Helicobacter Pylori Test is not offered as a home testing kit. However, with Bluecrest Wellness, you can choose a convenient test location close to home, making our private Helicobacter Pylori Test easily accessible.

We run our affordable private health checks from high quality venues across the UK and Ireland. Simply find a location near you and book an appointment with a health assessment specialist.

Your results will be given a ‘flag’ of a different colour: green, amber or red. Green results are within the recommended range for your age and sex; amber results are slightly outside what we'd normally expect; and red results are further outside the norm.

Where a result is amber or red, we'll give follow-up advice on what to do next - whether that's making lifestyle changes, simply monitoring the result, or visiting your doctor for further investigation.

If there are any critical results discovered by the laboratory, we will contact you immediately, so you won’t need to wait for your full Results Report to arrive to take appropriate action.

A Helicobacter Pylori Test is available as an individual test and can be added to any of our health assessment packages.

Full preparation instructions will be provided in writing when you book your appointment.
