eGFR Test

eGFR

Test

An eGFR Test (estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) is commonly used to measure how well your kidneys are functioning. Your eGFR is an estimated number based on a blood test and your age, sex, and body type.

Because your health matters.

The test measures how much creatinine is in your blood. Our blood tests are quick, easy and most appointments only last 20 - 30 minutes. With over 350 testing venues across England and Ireland, you’ll find a date, time and venue convenient for you.

Our eGFR test is part of our comprehensive private health checks. It can also be added as an extra individual test to many of our existing full body health packages. Explore our packages and book online today.

What is an eGFR

test?

An estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) test assesses how well your kidneys are functioning by estimating the rate at which they filter waste from the blood. It is a key indicator of kidney health, helping to detect conditions like chronic kidney disease. An eGFR test can be used as routine monitoring, especially if you have risk factors for kidney problems such as diabetes or high blood pressure. Understanding your eGFR can provide valuable insights into your overall kidney function and wellbeing.

Discover the benefits of an eGFR

Test

You may be prescribed an eGFR test as an essential part of a full body health screening. It can help you uncover key insights into your health and the overall functioning of your kidneys. Consider an eGFR test to:

  • Assess your overall health and wellbeing and provide a benchmark for future monitoring.

  • Uncover key information about how efficiently your kidneys are filtering waste from the blood.

  • Proactively monitor and detect early signs of kidney problems, particularly if you have risk factors or a family history of kidney disease.

  • If you have a pre-existing kidney condition, incorporating regular eGFR testing into your health routine is essential for ongoing monitoring.

What does an eGFR test look

for?

An eGFR test evaluates kidney function by estimating the rate at which the kidneys filter waste from the blood. This test assesses how efficiently the kidneys are filtering waste products, indicating their overall function.

For individuals with conditions such as diabetes or hypertension, the eGFR test is a valuable tool for ongoing monitoring of kidney health.

Our comprehensive private health assessments include all the tests you need to take a proactive approach to monitoring and improving your health. You can add an eGFR test to any of our existing health packages. Simply book an existing package and call our team before your appointment.

Your Results Explained in

Detail

Your Results Report (available online and through the post) explains each one of your test results in detail, with no confusing medical jargon. You’ll receive the actual reading for every test we've run, with each result given a 'flag' of green, amber or red.

Green results are within the recommended range for your age and sex; amber results are a little outside what we'd normally expect; and red results are further outside the norm.

Where a result is amber or red, we'll give follow-up advice on what to do next - whether that's making lifestyle changes, simply monitoring the result, or checking with a Doctor for further investigation.

FAQs

The eGFR test is currently not available at home. All of our tests are carried out in-person by trained phlebotomists in one of our 350 venues across the UK and Ireland. An in-person test guarantees the accuracy of your test results and enables us to get your samples to the laboratory for testing quickly, giving you your results faster.

An eGFR blood test reveals crucial insights into kidney function by estimating how effectively the kidneys filter waste from the blood. This assessment is vital for detecting early signs of chronic kidney disease and assessing overall kidney health. The eGFR results assist providers in identifying individuals at risk for kidney issues, guiding treatment decisions, and offering a baseline for ongoing monitoring.

The eGFR test is not typically recommended for everyone as a routine screening test. Instead, it is often ordered for individuals with specific risk factors or medical conditions that may affect kidney function. An eGFR test is recommended for those with diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history of kidney disease, or individuals taking medications that could impact the kidneys. Whether the eGFR test is suitable for an individual depends on their unique health circumstances, and it's best determined through consultation with a healthcare professional based on their medical history and risk factors.

Your test results and other readings will each be given a ‘flag’ of a different colour: green, amber or red. Green results are within the recommended range for your age and sex; amber results are a little outside what we'd normally expect; and red results are further outside the norm.

Where a result is amber or red, we'll give follow-up advice on what to do next - whether that's making lifestyle changes or simply monitoring the result.

If there are any critical results discovered by our laboratory, we will contact you immediately, so you won’t need to wait for your full Results Report to arrive to take appropriate action.

eGFR stands for estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate. It is a measurement used to estimate how well the kidneys are filtering waste from the blood. The eGFR is typically reported in millilitres per minute per 1.73 square metres (mL/min/1.73 m²), which represents the rate at which the kidneys are able to filter blood.

Our eGFR test is already included in many of our complete private health checks. It can also be added as an extra test to any individual health package. Call free on 0800 652 2183 before your appointment to speak to one of our team.

Your blood samples and other readings will be analysed by one of the leading laboratories in the UK which we have established partnerships with. Once they have analysed your samples and readings, your test results are sent securely to our in-house Results team who compile your personalised Results Report.
