What is the Bluecrest Wellness early cancer add-on product?

All our health assessments can be upgraded to include the early cancer risk add-on package.

If it’s not already part of the package available to your employees, you can add it in at your next renewal, or your employees can choose to pay individually to add it when they book or attend their health assessment.

The package is specifically designed for employees who are over 40, when cancer risk starts to increase. It includes tests for stomach and bowel cancer, plus prostate cancer tests for men, and cervical cancer tests for women. It also includes urine analysis, which checks for a range of conditions, including signs of bladder cancer.

All these tests are sensitive, and can often detect changes or abnormalities which might not be cancer-related. It’s why we’ve made sure the package includes a post-results consultation with one of our registered GPs, who can talk people through the results, talk about other risk factors and family history, and advise when and how to seek further attention.

What tests are included in the early cancer add-on

package?

Bowel cancer risk

Our Quantitative Faecal Immunochemical Test is an advanced form of bowel cancer screening which involves sending a poo sample to our lab. It’s designed to detect tiny particles of blood, which can be a sign of bowel cancer.

Urinalysis

We take a urine sample and look at 11 components, including ketones, proteins, crystals, blood and glucose. The results can help us find very early signs of things like diabetes, kidney disease, bladder cancer and urinary tract infections.

Stomach cancer risk

Our stomach cancer test is a blood test which looks for Helicobacter Pylori antibodies. This common bacteria can cause inflammation which can lead to stomach ulcers and can increase the risk of developing stomach cancer. If detected, the H Pylori infection can usually be treated with antibiotics.

Cervical cancer risk

Our cervical cancer test is a vaginal swab kit that looks for Human papillomavirus or HPV. Most cervical cancers are linked to HPV, which is actually fairly common. 80% of people are thought to get the infection at some point in their life, but some types of HPV can be increase the risk of cervical cancer.

Prostate cancer risk

Our prostate cancer risk PSA test is a blood test which examines the levels of Prostate Specific Antigen in the blood. Raised PSA levels can be a sign of prostate problems, including cancer.

Why is early detection so important?

Bluecrest Wellness’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Donati says: “Early detection is so important when it comes to cancer, in terms of the kind of treatment available and the prognosis for the disease. We know it can be hard to access the the NHS cancer screening programmes and they don’t cover everyone. We also know people are increasingly worried about being missed by the system."

Our early cancer add-on is designed to give your people instant access to some reassurance, and empower them with knowledge that can help them get further attention and investigation if they need it. These are robust tests, many of which can be easily done from home, with clear instructions and after care.

“I’m very proud to say that the package is now something nearly a third of businesses we work with choose to make available to their employees.”
